CAP conducts research on behalf of clients, projects are carried out by CAP's own team of experienced scientists and are directed by Professor Nigel Slater who has over thirty year's experience of project managing research and development projects within in both academic and commercial environments. Personnel from CAP are able to work closely with project teams within client companies and often conduct some elements of work on the client's site for example to make use of existing knowledge within the client organisation, or to prove the effectiveness of CAP technology within the client's environment. CAP can also manage elements of a project which have to be carried out in conjunction with other organisations such as manufacturing scale up, in-vivo testing and certain specialised analysis. Projects of various scales can be taken on by CAP, from short 2-3 month proof of principle exercises, to longer term projects sometimes involving many staff supporting the development of a novel product group. Work is typically structured into well defined phases with set milestones for progression. CAP has developed a number of intellectual property frameworks within which it conducts its contract research. In many cases CAP is prepared to conduct research and development at cost price in return for the rights to licence and develop technologies developed in areas in which the client does not have an interest.
